Luke Harvey-Jones // Director of Data Draig
"Passionate about turning data into decisions through data engineering, Power BI development and robust analysis"
Personal
Originally from Birmingham, I now live in South East Wales with my wife and our much-loved collection of pets.
Wales has very much become home. I am currently learning Welsh and enjoy feeling increasingly connected to the language, culture and community around me.
Outside of work, I am usually happiest outdoors, with a book, or experimenting with some kind of technical project. I enjoy exploring new places, taking photographs, and occasionally getting lost in a good retro game or an interesting coding problem.
I have always been naturally curious, and that curiosity tends to follow me everywhere — whether I’m reading, programming, analysing data, building websites, or trying to understand how something works behind the scenes.
It is that same curiosity that eventually led me into data, and it continues to shape the way I approach my work today.
Professional
Having achieved a first-class honours degree in Ethics, Philosophy and Society at Staffordshire University, I began my career in recruitment.
In my first office role, I chose to deepen my understanding of the positions I was hiring for, particularly developer roles. I wanted to understand the people, skills and technologies behind them, so I began learning about programming, data analysis, business intelligence and the technologies used to build modern analytics solutions.
From there, my curiosity took over, and what started as a way to become a better recruiter soon became the career I was determined to build.
I made the move from recruitment into analytics and engineering, landing my first data role within the recruitment industry before going on to work across business intelligence, management information, marketing analysis and market research.
Data Draig Ltd
Today, I help organisations uncover and resolve inefficiencies in their analytics environments and data pipelines, enabling them to turn data into decisions with confidence.
Rather than adding more complexity, I focus on going back to the source — data models, transformation logic and the reporting layer — to uncover the root causes of performance issues and build cleaner, faster and more reliable solutions.
That approach has helped me deliver a modern analytics platform for a FTSE 100 housebuilder in just six months using Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure SQL, Git and Power BI.
I have also improved reporting performance and code maintainability for organisations including Network Rail and an AI start-up, and delivered data-driven insights for household-name brands following marketing, internal communications and market research campaigns, helping shape future business decisions.
Working arrangements & CVs
I am flexible and open to discussing a range of working arrangements, including inside IR35 contracts, outside IR35 contracts, umbrella company employment, and PAYE employment directly through the organisation.

At Data Draig, I believe a strong client experience starts with trust, clarity and honest communication. From the initial consultation through to project completion, I aim to provide a professional, supportive and straightforward experience.
Strong working relationships are built on understanding each client’s goals, communicating clearly and promptly, and ensuring the work remains aligned with what they set out to achieve.
Integrity, authenticity and intellectual honesty are central to the way I work. I am passionate about providing honest, accurate findings based on factual data — not assumptions, guesswork or telling clients what they want to hear.
Whether the findings are positive, challenging or unexpected, my aim is always to provide meaningful insights that help clients make informed business decisions, improve performance and get greater value from their data.
